Lakota Thunderbirds & COVID 19

The purpose of this document is to provide coaches, players, and parents with a condensed checklist of steps to take in the case where a member of the team is exposed to COVID-19. This checklist is derived from guidance issued by the Butler County board of health. Additional links providing similar guidance are included at the end of this document.

Note that, per the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), since Lakota Thunderbirds is a community-based sports organization rather than school-based, we are NOT allowed to follow the ‘Mask to Stay/Test to Play’ quarantine guidelines that Ohio School districts have been using.

For players or coaches testing positive for Covid-19

Must stay home for a minimum of 5 days since symptoms started.

  • May return to basketball on day 6 or later only if asymptomatic AND must wear a mask through day 10

 

For players who are considered “Close Contacts” to COVID-infected individuals, please use the following quarantine guidelines:

Up to date fully Vaccinated Individuals

A fully vaccinated individual* exposed to COVID-19, regardless of the setting, does not need to quarantine.

*An individual is considered to be up to date fully vaccinated if:

  • Received a booster dose of any Covid vaccine OR
  • Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine less than 5 months ago OR Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine less than 2 months ago
  •  

It is recommended that to get tested 5 days after last exposure, and symptom monitor through day 14 after last exposure.

  • For 10 days must wear a mask while around others.
  • If develops symptoms or test positive within that 10 days, you must stay home.

 

Unvaccinated Individuals or partially vaccinated Individuals

A unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individual* exposed to COVID-19, regardless of the setting, does need to stay home for at least 5 days then may wear a mask for the following 5 days when around others.

*An individual is considered to be partially vaccinated if:

  • Only received one dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OR
  • If you completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine more than 5 months ago  and not yet boosted OR
  • Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine more than 2 months ago and not yet boosted.

 

It is recommended to get tested 5 days after last exposure, and symptom monitor through day 14 after last exposure

Who is considered a close contact outside of school or school affiliated extra-curriculars?

You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes over a 24-hour period.

You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19.

You had direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them).

You shared eating or drinking utensils.

They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you.

The incubation period for someone with COVID-19 is 48 hours prior to symptom onset, or if asymptomatic, 48 hours prior to positive COVID-19 test.
